Houston Oaks
Ranch House means all kinds of things in Texas. This one has the simplicities of European Old World Architecture but a clean, Texas approach. My clients, a young, family purchased the 8,200 sq. ft. custom home in a resort-style community outside Houston as a weekend getaway for their extended, multigenerational clan. They wanted a slight French-European feeling, warm and cozy but stylish and current. We first took into consideration the amount of people who would occupy the home for family gatherings. Have a great room that could comfortably accommodate multiple conversations was key. My strategy: keep the lines of the furnishings very clean, but the elements rough – a stone fireplace, Venetian plaster walls, and reclaimed wood beams and floors. I created separate seating areas and used materials such as performance fabrics and leather that would age well given very regular use by child and pets. I think practically for my clients, but I don’t want to forfeit elegance and good looks.
