Contemporary Country House

Janine Stone created, constructed and shaped a striking contemporary house situated in an established woodland garden setting with energy, spirit and modernity for a growing family clan.

A handsome slate roof sets the tone for the project and fills the sky-line, responding to the scale of the surrounding trees and lending some tradition to the expansive volume of the house.

Attempting to re-address ideas of the Country House, the approach along a gracious sweeping drive gives glimpses between the planting of generously proportioned windows which lend perfect views at almost every angle to pretty garden vistas. The standard expectation of one dimensional formal symmetrical grandeur is turned through 180 degrees is thus denied and replaced with a ‘filmic’ sequence of experiences to reinforce the drama and setting of the new house.
