Art Nouveau This is a pleasant still life, depicting a vase of flowers with roses of various colors. It is a small canvas pasted on a wooden board. The painting on canvas is signed at lower left L. Gilbert Darpy, French painter of still lifes, but mostly of flowers.  Lucien Gilbert Darpy (1875-1964) was a student of Géry- Bichard and Nel-Duchel. He regularly exhibited at the "Salon des Artistes Français" and became a member in 1897. Oil painting dresses with a lacquered wooden frame, called Montparnasse. The oil painting and frame are carefully and professionally restored. Bibliography: E. Bénézit.
