Santiago Álvarez Román (1919-1998) was a Cuban filmmaker. Alvarez wrote and directed documentaries about Cuban and American culture. He became head of ICAIC newsreel division in the 60s and developed an unique format for his docu films.
Antonio Fernández Reboiro is a Cuban Postwar & Contemporary artist who was born in 1935. He studied medicine and architecture at the University of Havana. In 1963 he began to work at the ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry) until 1982 designing posters.
Most of the highly collectible Cuban posters are from mid-1960s through early 1980s, the period called “el periodo de oro de la grafica cubana” (golden period of Cuban graphics). These silkscreens were develop with new graphic techniques, due in part that materials were not readily available and lack of formal graphic schools. The Cuban posters became known for the use of bold innovate images which were mostly for proganda. Among the most important were the movie posters of the ICAIC which would promote the national movie industry as well as foreign films.

"Like the meanders of the Doubs so dear to Jean Messagier, the furrows that the artists on the paths of art history are sometimes complex and tortuous. Messagier, famous since the 1950s, exhibited all over the world, a friend of painters, rockstars and poets, began the 1980s with a retrospective exhibition at the Grand Palace (Paris) which then marks, paradoxically, the beginning of a certain forgetfulness. The reasons are
many times that today the work of this immense artist is partly forgotten, in all unknown cases, and is probably the object of a misunderstanding. Messagier, abstract? Arise then these images of colorful tracery, this so-called "tile washer" painting, which was, he, is true, that of her first successes and her consecration, but which is only one of facets of a gigantic and protean work that has endlessly put itself in danger and to reinvent herself. The object of the retrospective imagined at the Musée de Dole in 2019 is clearly to show that Messagier was working beyond the issues of figuration and of abstraction, in an urgency to paint, to draw, to create, which has as principal obsession to respond to the cruel creativity of nature. About the Artist:
Jean Lurçat was a French painter, ceramist and tapestry designer, born in Bruyères on July 1, 1892 and died in Saint-Paul-de-Vence on January 6, 1966. He owes his fame mainly to his tapestry work, which he thoroughly executed in the twentieth century. He is frequently called the most instrumental figure in reviving the art of designing and weaving tapestries in the 20th century.
Although his first tapestries were executed and exhibited in 1917, it was not until 1936 that Lurçat turned from being primarily a painter to designing tapestries. In 1939 he and the painters Toussaint Dubreuil and Marcel Gromaire went to Aubusson, a French town historically associated with tapestry weaving since at least the 16th century, and established a centre for the making of modern tapestries in cooperation with the master weaver François Tabard.
