Sterling Silver Bowl by Cellini Crafts of Chicago

About the Item

This delightful sterling silver centrepiece bowl was manufactured by the Chicago based 'Cellini Crafts' likely in the late 1930s. The handwrought piece features three pointed 'lobes' and would have likely been intended to be a serving piece or to be used as a centrepiece on a table. Cellini Crafts were based in Chicago and prior to World War Two produced a large range of sterling silver products in a similar taste to those made by the Kalo Shop, also based in Chicago. Initially known as The Cellini Shop, the firm later changed their name to Cellini Crafts in 1934. During World War Two and shortly thereafter the company focused on making products from an aluminium alloy known as 'argental', which is how we date this piece to between 1934 and circa 1940. A really beautiful piece of handwrought American silver which feels like it could have been born from a designer of the Arts and Crafts movement. Marked - 'HANDWROUGHT STERLING', the Cellini Craft hallmark & 'S11' likely a pattern number Measures - 26cm W Total weight of piece - 609 grams
