Rare Antique Hilliard & Thomason Sterling Silver Clam Shell Form Nutmeg Grater

About the Item

A very rare English sterling silver nutmeg grater. In the form of a scallop shell by Hilliard and Thomason of Birmingham, England. It is modeled as full bodied scallop shell and has a cover that reveals a hinged steel grill or grater. The interior rim bears hallmarks for Hilliard & Thomason. A very fine addition to any sophisticated nutmeg grater collection! Date: Mid-19th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: There is some light rusting to the grater. Otherwise, there is some light edge wear, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Hilliard & Thomason Pattern Name: Clam Shell Nutmeg Grater / Grinder Marks: Hallmarked for Hilliard & Thomason, Sterling, Birmingham, and with what appears to be an 'U' for 1869.
