GIA Certified H/VS2 1.03 Carat Diamond in Bombe Edwardian-Style Platinum Ring

Eytan Brandes designed this ring using various elements he likes from Edwardian engagement rings, such as the carinated band, the coin-edged pavé setting plates, and the elevated, almost puffy face. But while a ring like this would traditionally be set with diamonds, Eytan gave it a more striking, contemporary look by setting it entirely in sapphires. The center prong-set sapphire is a nearly round oval. To maximize both its color and its sparkle, a mixed cut has been used (i.e., the crown is brilliant cut, while the pavilion is a step cut). Eytan Brandes made the gorgeous mounting that perfectly showcases this clean, natural and untreated light yellow diamond. The prongs and frame are in 18 karat yellow gold to accentuate the stone's pale yellow hue; the strong yellow of the frame also creates interesting transitional contrast with the bright white of the halo diamonds. The undergirding and band are in brushed satin platinum -- muting the shine of the mine helps delineate the individual stones and their bright white sparkle. The overall effect is a graceful white-to-yellow spectrum -- the considered product of a jeweler's homage to the beautiful pale hue of this gorgeous stone. The popularity of "fancy yellow" diamonds has been accompanied by the inevitable proliferation of artificial enhancements -- especially irradiation and the use of 24 karat gold backings -- to juke otherwise light yellow diamonds into an unnatural shade most often associated with police tape and taxicabs.
