Antique Sapphire Diamond Triple Flower Ring with Old European Cut Diamonds

About the Item

Offered is an elegant & extremely sparkly late Victorian Old European Cut Diamond and Blue Sapphire Ring. Estimated at approximately 1.20 carats of bright and fiery old cut diamonds and approximately .56 carats of old cut blue sapphires set in silver, the ring features a delightful cluster design of three flower blossoms. Each flower is centered with a blue sapphire - the central one with an oval shaped faceted sapphire, and the one to either side with a round faceted sapphire. Twenty old cut diamond "petals" surround the sapphires. The color of the sapphires is a rich blue that I would refer to as a "Ceylon" blue - it's a deep cornflower blue rather than an inky dark blue that can appear black in some lighting. (I've taken photos in different lighting, but please note your screen might display the color(s) a bit differently) Their cuts are a little on the chunky side and do show a little wear or "rubbing" on the surface seen with magnification. They still look very lovely to the eye. Bright and extremely fiery, the old cut diamonds have very good color, making them the perfect counterpoint to the beautiful blue of the sapphires. With wonderful old chunky cuts and open culets, the diamonds are very lively and what I look for in old cut diamonds - they are little "fireballs with great character." Most are very clean even under magnification - I see only a very few with inclusions seen with magnification, and one stone has a chip or surface flaw. The settings/prongs show some expected wear. With a wonderful presence on the hand, and a low profile making it comfortable to wear, the face of the ring measures approximately 18 x 10 mm, with a rise off the finger of approximately 3.6 mm. The 18K yellow gold shoulders have a wonderful scrolling motif, leading into a polished band that remains sturdy. Slight signs at the back of the band indicate it was once sized. Inside, there is a worn mark for 18K gold and a partial maker's mark that I believe reads "LH & S". On my scale, the finished weight is 4.34 grams. Currently a size 9.5 on my mandrel, the ring could be sized up or down within reason by a good jeweler.
