Museum Quality Antique Georgian Black Enamel Pearl Memorial Ring

George Nassau was an English country gentleman, and the brother of Henry, 5th Earl of Rochford. He was a historian and bibliophile and amassed an extensive library including many manuscripts on his home county Suffolk, with illustrations commissioned by him from leading artists of the time such as Thomas Gainsborough. His will notes that on his death, the following people were to receive mourning rings, valued at six guineas each: Reverend H.I. An historic medium size` 18 Kt and diamond ring, as good as it gets, was made by John Linnet. Linnet was renown for fine and delicate work. He made jewelry for Queen Victoria. The ring is a standout. This ring is hallmarked for 1822, London with the makers mark JL. It is enamel on gold with a curved square frame and centered by a diamond. The diamond is like a framed portrait that stands out on the black background. It is 05 cts. with a North Star twinkle. In its setting the size can only be estimated. The shank engraved all around states In Memory of. Inside the inscription tells some history about Miss Jane Fitzherbert. She was deceased October 11 1822 at age 65.
