Georgian pearl and black enamel memorial ring. Set to centre with an oblong crystal slice covering plaited hair in a closed back setting, encircled by a row of ten half seed pearls with four further set to the shoulders in closed back claw collet settings, flanked by ornate engraved foliate rows bordering a black enamel central strip with gold lettering 'IN MEMORY OF', with conforming bezel engraved with 'Shearman Bird Esq. 0BT. April 2 1824 AET.74'. Marked 18 carat yellow gold, full English hallmarks, maker's mark 'SB', English, circa 1824. UK finger size Q. Shearman Bird Esq., originally from Southampton, was a senior court judge in India and served for over fifty years. This ring is hallmarked for 1822, London with the makers mark JL. It is enamel on gold with a curved square frame and centered by a diamond.
