2.5 Carat Pavé Diamond Frog Pendant in White Gold on Chrome Diopside Bead Chain
About the Item
This is a custom design made in 1998 by San Diego jeweler Lawrence Poon. When he hopped into our lives, this frog was a pin, but The Boss felt he would make a cool pendant, especially with double bales so that you can wear him diving into your cleavage or looking up at you beseechingly... "Please feed me a fly!"
He's covered in 136 brilliant cut diamonds ranging in size from 0.005 carats to 0.06 carats. Our estimate of total weight comes to 2.96 carats, but since we don't know the depths of any of the stones (and since it's really frigging hard to measure pavé diamonds, especially when there are at least 12 different sizes), we're erring on the conservative side and committing to a diamond weight of 2.5 carats.
All diamonds are natural, earth-mined and untreated; Eytan rates them H-I color and VS1 clarity.
The big, pleading emerald cabochon eyes are set in 18 karat yellow gold bezels. They're probably at least 0.10 carats each with nice bright color. They show the usual emerald inclusions; we aren't aware of treatments or origin.
From toe to toe, this frog is 44mm (1-3/4") long. From nose to toe, he's 41mm (1-5/8") wide. He weighs 19.3 grams. All metal is 18 karat white gold (with the exception of the 18 karat yellow gold eye bezels).
The chain is a new 17.5" strand of faceted 3mm chrome diopside, fully knotted, like a string of pearls. We like this stone for beads; it's not really appropriate for most jewelry because it's too soft and the color gets muddier the bigger the stone (not a good quality), but it's perfect for beads -- rich and saturated and able to stand up to our frog's big green eyes. The closure is a 14 karat yellow gold barrel clasp with a figure 8 safety catch. The chain and pendant can be worn separately. Of course, if you would prefer to buy the frog without the chain, or you would like a different chain, or if you would like him converted back to a pin, even, we can accommodate.
