Christian Dior by Mitchel Maer 1952-1956 Vintage Rhinestone and Pearl Necklace

About the Item

This beautiful and rare necklace was created by Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior between 1952 and 1956. Condition Report: Very Good - A faint hint of oxidisation to one link, a tiny element of ‘smokiness’ to the tip of one teardrop stone and behind one round stone, the tiniest scuff on one pearl. These elements are only visible upon very close examination. They do not detract from the appeal and rarity of the piece. The Details... This necklace is constructed from old gold plated metal. It is detailed with colourless round and large teardrop shaped rhinestones, which are multi-faceted and claw set. The necklace also features faux pearls too. The necklace fastens with an 'S' clasp and an open link chain. It features a safety chain too. The necklace is adjustable in length - measuring 42cm at its shortest and 50cm at its longest length. It is signed - an oval cartouche, stamped with 'CHRISTIAN DIOR BY MITCHEL MAER', can be found on the reverse of the 'S' clasp. A Short History... This necklace can be dated to the 1950s, as the London based designer Mitchel Maer produced jewellery for the House of Dior between 1952 and 1956. His bold rhinestone creations for the house were popular, as they particularly complimented the couture evening wear designed by Dior during the decade. Today, they are most collectable because they were created during Christian Dior's lifetime. Also, Maer's designs for Dior are scarce because he only produced pieces for the house over a period of 5 years. Wear it With... The rhinestones in this piece sparkle so brightly - making it the perfect formal wear accompaniment.

c.1900 Jugendstil Antique Paste and Red Glass Pendant
Located in Skelmersdale, GB
This beautiful pendant was probably created in Austria in c.1900. Condition Report: Excellent The Details... This pendant is constructed from gilded metal. It features a typically abstract, but organic, Jugendstil design. It is set with an oval shaped, open-back, red glass stone and round, colourless, multi-faceted paste stones. It measures 7cm x 4.75cm. A Short History... The term Jugendstil, meaning "Young Style," was derived from the magazine Die Jugend and describes an art and design movement which took place in Germany from c.1896 through to c.1915. Taking place at the same time as the Art Nouveau movement, which was inspired by the natural world, Jugendstil was also heavily influenced by organic shapes but contrasted them with geometric forms resulting in very stylised designs. Important Jugendstil jewellery designers were Carl Herman, Meyle and Mayer...
