Kyme Ancient Silver Coin 18 Karat Citrine Amethyst Topaz Cabochon Medallion

About the Item

This DUBINI coin necklace from the 'Empires' collection features authentic silver coin set in 18K gold with citrine, amethyst, swiss topaz, garnet, peridot, sky topaz and rhodolite bullet cabochons. DEPICTED ON THE COIN Obverse: Diademed head of the Amazon Kyme facing right. Reverse: KYMAIΩN – ΣTPATΩN, horse prancing right, cup below raised foreleg, all within a laurel wreath. HISTORY The diademed profile of Kyme, one of the most illustrious Amazonian generals and the founding figure of the city, is depicted. Kyme's commanding presence, adorned with a detailed tainia (ribbon), signifies her role as a formidable leader and strategic genius. The Amazons, a legendary tribe of fierce female warriors, were renowned for their unmatched archery skills and superior horsemanship. They defied Greek norms with their matriarchal society, raising only daughters and sending their sons back to their fathers, engaging with them briefly only for reproductive purposes. Brave and fiercely independent, the Amazons embarked on extensive military campaigns under the leadership of their queens, playing a dramatic role in Greek mythology. They were an active force in Greek mythology, featuring in the Trojan War under Queen Penthesilea and also as one of the Labours of Hercules, who was tasked with obtaining Queen Hippolyte’s magic belt. Among the ancient Greeks, the term 'Amazon' was popularly folk-etymologised as originating from the Greek ‘amazos’ meaning breastless. This was connected with a tradition that claimed Amazons had their right breast cut or burnt off as it was thought a hindrance in battle. Reversing the coin reveals a beautifully rendered bridled horse, lifting its foreleg with a cup beneath it. This symbol reflects the prosperity and equine prowess of the city of Kyme, emphasising the significance of the region's thriving horse industry. This coin is a prime example of the artistic mastery of Hellenistic coinage, featuring an elaborate laurel wreath encircling the horse, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship and detail of the period. *This piece is provided with a Certificate of Authenticity. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. The Empires Collection playfully delights in ancient stories and myths whilst tapping into the rich history of Italian craftsmanship. The coins have been carefully selected for their value, beauty and as witnesses of a bygone era. Within a clean and classic context, Empires merges past and present, creating timeless pieces with an irresistible edge.
