Egyptian Revival Earrings Enamel Malachite 18 Karat Gold Scarab Lotus Horus
About the Item
This is an extraordinary pair of antique Egyptian Revival Earrings in 18 Karat Gold adorned with Malachite gems and with magnificent enamel work depicting images of winged Scarab beetles, the falcon god Horus and Lotus flowers. The elegant and dramatic earrings are a stunning 6 cm (2.4 inches) long. They are substantial 18 Karat gold. In the center are fabulous winged scarab beetles adorned with vivid green malachite gems. Above the the scarabs are images of the head of the falcon god, Horus. There are seven pendant drops at the bottom with Lotus flower designs. The enamel work is gorgeous and the lapidary inlay work with the green malachite gems is the work of a master artisan.

During the 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and brought on what is referred to as "archaeological revival jewelry," or "Egyptian revival jewelry." The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s onward, and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics.
Scarab Meaning in Ancient Egypt:
Rebirth and resurrection: The scarab beetle's symbolized the sun's journey across the sky, and the rebirth that comes from the sun's new life each day.
Protection and good luck: People wore scarab amulets for protection and good luck.
Divine power: The scarab beetle represented divine power.
Self-generation: The scarab beetle symbolized self-generation and rebirth
The lotus flower was a significant symbol in ancient Egyptian culture, representing rebirth, creation, and the sun.

The necklace is a museum quality jewel. The magnificent carved Blue Sodalite Scarab is a monumental Scarab of 30mm by 20mm by 12mm deep. The carved scarab has exquisite carved detailing on the front as well as on the reverse. The scarab is surrounded by an oval surround with exquisite blue, green and white enamel. Three Lotus Flower pendants hang from the bottom of the pendant. The colors and Egyptian motif are absolutely fabulous.
