Ancient Roman coins 2nd Cent. AD Silver Bracelet depicting Five Emperors
About the Item
Five authentic Roman coins have been set in this bracelet depicting the following emperors: Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius, Septimius Severus. In order, on the back of the coins we can see: the equestrian statue of Trajan, goddess Iustitia, goddess Victoria, goddess Liberalitas, Septimius making a sacrifice with patera and spear
Among the five, Trajan (reigned 98–117 AD): Known as Optimus ("best"), Trajan expanded the Roman Empire to its greatest extent and ruled with generosity. He was the first emperor born outside Italy, setting a precedent for non-Italian rulers. He is also remembered for his public works and military victories.
Hadrian (reigned 117–138 AD): Famous for his travels, building projects, and cultural efforts, Hadrian strengthened the empire's borders, including constructing Hadrian’s Wall in Britain. He rebuilt the Pantheon and designed his luxurious Villa Adriana, now a UNESCO site. His tomb became the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome.
Antoninus Pius (reigned 138–161 AD): Adopted by Hadrian, Antoninus ruled peacefully with no major revolts. He focused on administration, expanding legal rights, and improving infrastructure. He constructed the Antonine Wall in Britain and left the empire in a strong financial position.
Marcus Aurelius (reigned 161–180 AD): The last of the Five Good Emperors and a Stoic philosopher, Marcus ruled during the Pax Romana’s end. His reign was marked by military conflict, but he is also known for his Meditations, a reflection of his Stoic beliefs.
Septimius Severus (reigned 193–211 AD) was a Roman emperor and the founder of the Severan dynasty. He came to power after a civil war and focused on strengthening the empire through military reforms and frontier defense. Severus expanded the empire’s borders with successful campaigns in Britain and Parthia. He also made legal reforms and undertook building projects, including the Arch of Septimius Severus in Rome. After his death, his sons, Carus and Geta, succeeded him, though their reign was short due to internal conflict.
