Jade Bangle Certified Untreated Jadeite from Guatemala XL 70mm Diameter

About the Item

This is a difficult-to-find large-size hand-carved jadeite bangle in extremely rare Guatemala blue jadeite jade. The bangle has an outer diameter of 89mm and an opening of 70mm, meaning it will fit a man with fairly large hands. It's 23.78mm wide and about 10mm thick. This translates to a massive, heavy bangle that has been carved to perfection. High-gloss on the outside and the softest, almost powdery mat-finish on the interior. It's truly exquisite lapidary work, carved entirely by hand in California. Jadeite was "discovered" by Western geologists in Burma in the mid-19th century and identified as a form of jade. The mines of Burma produce the world's finest, rarest, and most valuable jadeite jade. Jadeite is formed under geological circumstances that exist in very few places on earth. However, since approximately 1300 BC, Mexican civilizations —the Olmecs, the Myans, the Aztecs— created (and left behind) many treasures created from a uniquely beautiful variety of jadeite. While jadeite from Guatemala cannot match the fine-grained glassy semi-transparency and vivid colors of the finest Burmese jadeite, the jadeite from South America is distinctive and fascinating all on its own. Some of this South American material displays extraordinary translucency and coloring that rivals that from Burma. The actual source for "blue Olmec jade" has never been found. Rather, boulders of jadeite in various interesting colors are scattered about. The rarest and most prized color is the blue you see here. I've photographed the bangle in a variety of lighting, so you can see how beautiful it looks in all light, True Guatemalan jadeite is rare. This bangle ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the bangle is natural and untreated jadeite of dark bluish-green and that its origin is Guatemala.

Jade, Bangle, Created with Ohio Steel & 18K Gold, 70mm, 9"
By Augusten Burroughs

I created this jadeite jade bead bangle with heavy gauge Ohio steel that I hand-worked into shape. This open bangle is worn by sliding your wrist through the bangle's narrow opening. Then you slide the "S" through the loop. It measures 9" in length but the beads add thickness making it wear more like an 8.5" bracelet. It can fit many different wrist sizes. As long as your hand measures more than 70mm from knuckle to knuckle, it won't slide off your hand. But an individual with a large to extra-large hand and wrist will probably find this bangle most comfortable. You can wear it alone or stacked with others. Twenty-six hand-carved beads move freely along the steel. These are untreated hand-cut and polished beads in a variety of green and greenish-gray tones. The beads range in size from 6.40mm to 8.24 and they average 8mm. A 7.6mm gold ring serves as a slender focal point. Like most of the pieces in this collection, there is no lab certification included for the jade. This saves money helps me keep the price down, but does require a leap of faith on your end. All of the jade I use in my collection are from previously-tested "batches" from specific suppliers and all previous samples have tested as "A" jade. I only use "leftover" jade beads that I had in my collection after creating a necklace and then sending that necklace to the gem lab for testing and certification. Even though I can identify jade treatments with about 99% accuracy, I only sell jade that has been lab tested and is natural and untreated. Even my nephrite has been tested, which is highly uncommon in the industry. Yet Tiffany & Co. coats their nephrite necklaces...

18K Gold, Jade, Bangle Created with Ohio Steel, 70mm

I created this bangle with heavy gauge Ohio steel that I hand-worked into shape. This open bangle is worn by sliding your wrist through the bangle's narrow opening. It's rigid enough to retain its shape, but flexible enough to fit many wrists. Use two hands to carefully narrow or widen if needed. Adorning the bangle are eight highly translucent slightly bluish-green hand-carved jadeite jade rondel beads from Guatemala, each of which measures almost 10mm. They are accompanied by a pair of 8mm agarwood (or oud) wood beads. Agarwood is a rare wood prized for centuries as a perfume ingredient and an expensive one at that. The aroma is a result when a particular species of tree native to Asia becomes infected with a particular bacteria. The longer and more intense the infection, the greater the smell. These are not antique beads, so their aroma is extremely subtle. A 12.45mm Guatemalan jadeite bead serves as the focal point and a pair of small (4.29mm) 18K yellow gold rings serve as bookends on either side. Like most of the pieces in this collection, there is no lab certification included for the jade. This saves money and helps me keep the price down but does require a leap of faith on your end.
