Henri Bloch Pair of Art Deco Bracelets

About the Item

Created circa 1930, this unusual pair of Art Deco bangle bracelets is set with over twenty carats of diamonds and eight carats of sapphires, mounted in platinum. The bracelets are designed with baguette, transitional and old-single-cut diamonds set strong and intricate geometric patterns at varying elevations, highlighted by channel-set arches of step-cut sapphires. An unusual innovation on the typical strap bracelet of the 1920s, these strong, sculptural forms make a striking statement, whether sparkling on each wrist or worn together on one for maximum impact. Item #: BA-21775 Artist: Henri Bloch Country: France Circa: 1930 Dimensions: 6.50" interior circumference Materials: 382 round diamonds (approximate total weight 22.00 carats); 36 baguette diamonds (approximate total weight 1.50 carats); 40 step-cut sapphires (approximate total weight 8.00 carats); Platinum Gram Weight: 53.0 each Signed: Henri Bloch maker's mark, French Assay marks Macklowe Gallery Curator's Notes: Located in Paris on the Boulevard Voltaire, just northeast of the Marais and the Place des Vosges, the firm of Henri Bloch were retailers and manufacturers of jewelry from 1930 until they were taken over in 1941. In this period, small family firms still made original and impactful jewelry. These bracelets have the monumental feel of the early Art Moderne, the avant garde style of the period pioneered by Dusausoy and Mauboussin, among others.

Pair of Ruby Bead Diamond Rondelle Bangle Bracelets
Located in New York, NY
The unique beauty of rubies, prized for their vibrant color and rarity, captivates in any form, be they faceted or lustrous, cut or carved. Rubies have been treasured and revered for centuries, their intense red color a symbol of passion, love, power, and also life itself. Any discussion of the mythology surrounding rubies should begin in India, an ancient source for the beautiful red gemstones. The ancient Sanskrit word for ruby, ratnaraj, translates as “king of precious stones.” Ancient Hindus believed that the red color of the ruby came from an inner fire in the stone that could not be extinguished, making the ruby a symbol of talismanic protection and good fortune. Some legends said that if you dropped a ruby into cool water, it would boil. Perhaps the most extreme belief belonged to the Burmese. They believed that pressing a ruby into the flesh granted a person invincibility. This ravishingly beautiful pair of Contemporary Ruby Bead Diamond...
