Wall Art Installation: Ceramic Plates/Oil on Canvas - "Paris-Place Malraux"
About the Item
“Paris-Place Malraux” belongs to our “Altered Perspectives” series: assemblages of ceramic plates layered with a painting on canvas.
This artwork includes 6 late 19th C. European blue & white plates combined with a painting on canvas of Place André Malraux in Paris at twilight, with on the left the Fountain of the River Nymph and the building of the Comédie Française and the Avenue de l'Opéra on the right.
This one of a kind wall art composition of decorative plates and painting belongs to our "Altered Perspectives" wall art series, in which the ‘perspective’ of the painting is ‘altered’ by combining it with the subject of the decoration of the plates, the sum of the whole being more interesting than the individual parts.
Each "Altered Perspectives" composition is the result of finding the perfect selection of plates (based on their subject) and have them dialogue with a painting. We create the layout that can at best highlight the details in the painting and reference the decoration on each plate.
Only once we are satisfied with the composition we start the process of creating the artwork.
Each plate has a professional hook at the back, and each plate is numbered at the back.
Artwork is signed and dated at the back.
A diagram showing the placing of each plate on the wall is included in the box.

We welcome and embrace these imperfections as they contribute to the look of the artwork with their testimony.

Studio DeSimoneWayland
Marcello De Simone and Bruce Wayland are the Amsterdam based Italian/American design duo behind Studio DeSimoneWayland. Since 2010 they have been combining their backgrounds in both studio art and art history to create one of a kind wall art. Their medium of choice is ceramic plates, at first combined with paintings in their Altered Perspectives series, and later created in stoneware and porcelain by the artists in their atelier in Amsterdam.
The combination of plates with paintings, as well as handmade ceramics and porcelain has developed into a slight obsession with the forms and shapes of antique table services. This has led to the forms themselves becoming the focus of their latest work which is in unglazed extra white porcelain and coloured stoneware. Their work has been shown in various locations in Europe, and most recently at the "Homo Faber: The Journey of Life" exhibition in Venice from 1 to 30 September, 2024.
For this show, curated by renowned director Luca Guadagnino and architect Niccolò Rosmarini, Studio DeSimoneWayland has created dozens of hand made and hand cast Mont Blanc porcelain pieces combined into a 180 cm long panel. Each piece has textures of antique hand-embroidered linens as a way of preserving cherished heirlooms. In 2022 Studio DeSimoneWayland were included in the prestigious Homo Faber Guide of the best European artist-makers.
