Alain Le Yaouanc, born on May 18, 1940, in Alençon, is a versatile artist known for his proficiency in various mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpting, poetry, writing, collage, illustration, and stage set painting. He is closely associated with surrealism. Le Yaouanc had his first experience in the USA in 1956 when he attended Harmon Hall School in York Harbour, Maine. During this time, he executed his initial drawings and paintings. The following year, in 1957, he held his first exhibitions in different locations: the Side Walk Art Show in New Britain, the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, Connecticut, and the gallery Prigent in Rouen, in November of that year. In 1958, Le Yaouanc enrolled in courses at the Art Students League of New York, where he, along with other students, earned the second prize for their representation of "Luncheon Boaters," a tableau vivant based on Edouard Manet's work. Additionally, he established his first workshop at No. 8 Amsterdam Avenue. In 1965, Le Yaouanc moved to Paris, where he ventured into collage art and had the opportunity to meet influential figures like André Breton and Alejandro Jodorowsky. He actively participated in numerous exhibitions and, later in his career, delved into creating artwork for architectural monuments. Overall, Alain Le Yaouanc's artistic journey has been diverse and marked by his strong connection to surrealism, leaving a lasting impact on the art world with his multifaceted creations.
