Pair of 18th Century Baroque Grey Painted Dragon Wall Shelves

About the Item

Pair 18th Century Rococo Period Painted Wall Sconces are remarkable works, celebrating the asymmetrical naturalism of the movement with stylized shell, acanthus foliage and wildflowers providing the primary subject matter of the sculpture. Carved from solid oak to last for centuries, each is fitted with rings for hanging. Look closely, and you'll see two dragons at the very bottom guarding the work! Painted a gray color that has achieved a lovely patina over the centuries, each was designed to display a particular keepsake or heirloom, and being carved in mirror images of each other, make a great pair to add a special visual touch to any room. 19th Century French Brass Wall Fountain, Lavabo
Located in Dallas, TX
19th century French brass wall fountain ~ Lavabo is a charming relic from a bygone era! Back before the days of ubiquitous running water in every room of the house, folks were obliged to create ingenious solutions like this wall fountain. Such a piece would be placed just outside or inside the back door, so that when it was time to come inside from working in the fields, one could wash hands and face before entering the home. The reservoir above held sufficient water for the task, and the basin below captured the waste water for dumping later via an easily removable hanging system. The cast brass valves...

19th Century French Gothic Sacrament Cabinet
Located in Dallas, TX
19th Century French Gothic Sacrament cabinet was artfully sculpted from solid oak and fruitwood to create a remarkable religious artifact designed to be appreciated throughout the ages! The trapezoidal form of the casework is in keeping with the Gothic style, which historians concur originated in the Cathedral of St. Denis during the middle of the 12th century. Boldly molded crown follows the complex contours and overlooks the case below which features a single door flanked by cornerposts that feature pilasters facing front as well as the sides, with recessed arched panels topped with recessed circular frames above filled with carved rosettes highlighted in gold. The arched recesses facing the front are also filled with carved floral and wheat motifs also highlighted in gold, representing the Bread of Life. The door panel, however, steals the show, with a gloriously carved relief work depicting both wheat and fully laden grapevines adding the significance of the Blood of Christ...
