Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

About the Item

This is an extraordinary rare Walt Disney Studios, 1937 original water colour concept painting of Snow White and all seven dwarfs showing Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey. The art work is by Frank Follmer, The artwork shows Snow White and her friends inside their woodland cottage, with forest creatures sharing the room, during the film’s pie-baking scene. This piece is signed in the lower right corner in pencil, "Frank Follmer." Follmer worked at Walt Disney Studios from the late 1930s through the early 1940s, assisting on projects like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Fantasia. This was Walt Disney's first feature animation and when it was released in 1937 was welcomed as a magical marvel. Disney estimated the cost of making this animation at $250,000, which was already ten times as much as making one of his short animations. However, it ended up costing a staggering 1.5 million dollars, with Disney having to mortgage his home to help finance the film. Luckily it ended up being a gamble worth taking, as the film grossed over 8 million dollars in its international first release, and was one of the most successful films of the decade. This piece is conservation framed with UV plexiglass in anTulip wood frame with acid free card mounts and UV plexiglass. The size given is before framing. This piece would be boxed and shipped by Federal Express.

Disney was awarded an honorary Oscar at the 11th Academy Awards for a significant screen innovation which has charmed millions and pioneered a great new entertainment field.
