Pair of Paris Scenes Gouache Paintings in Gilt Frames Signed Henri La Touche
About the Item
Painted in the manner of Leon Cortes or Eugene Galien Laloue, these gouache on canvas paintings were created in Paris, France, circa 1900. The highly detailed scenes are set inside carved gilt frames with a protecting glass on top. One of the paintings depicts "Les Grands Boulevards," the other shows "La Place de la Madeleine," both of which are well-known Paris landmarks. From the first motor cars to the Victorian costume, these pieces of art realistically illustrate what Paris life was like back in the late 19th century or early 20th century. The impressionistic scenes are very colorful, lively, and full of historical and cultural details. The antique paintings are in excellent condition and show a beautiful rendering of space, architecture, light and perspective. Both pieces are signed on the lower right by French artist Henry La Touche.
Edouard Léon Cortès (1882-1969) was a French painter of French and Spanish ancestry. He is known as "Le Poète Parisien de la Peinture" or "the Parisian Poet of Painting" because of his diverse Paris city scapes in a variety of weather and night settings.
Eugène Galien-Laloue (1854-1941) was a French artist. He was a populariser of street scenes, usually painted in autumn or winter.

By Robert Lebron
Located in Dallas, TX
Set in carved gilt wood frames and signed in the lower right and left corner by american artist Robert Lebron, each mid-century art work is painted on canvas and depicts a typical Parisian scene in the style of Edouard Cortes or Galien Laloue. One scene depicts the Place de la Madeleine and the other Place de la Paix with the Opera in the background. Both paintings are in excellent condition with rich and vivid colors.
Robert Lebron (1928-2013) was an American impressionist artist. He was born in New York City, where he attended New York City's High School of Music and Arts. He also went on to study at the Art's Students' League for five years. Lebron developed his own personal technique after several extensive stays in Europe, relying on the use of a palette knife rather than brushes. Lebron has painted in Europe, particularly London and Paris, in Italy and Spain, in Canada and Mexico. He won such awards as the Forbes Magazine Award (travel grant), and he has had one-man shows at the Galeria Studio in Madrid and in New Jersey, Connecticut, Illinois and in his home city ( NYC). Most of his paintings feature favorite characters from his childhood including a tiny dog present in most of his paintings, inspired by the comic strip Dickie Dare. His paintings of the Donner Party are exhibited at the Emigrant...
