Pair of 19th Century French Porcelain Plaques in Gilt Frames Signed L. Levy

About the Item

Crafted in France circa 1890, and set in the original carved giltwood frames, both antique porcelain plaques depict a hand painted pastoral scene in the beige and white palette. One painting features a shepherdess attending her sheep, the other plaque depicts a farmer playing the bagpipe with dogs, goats and a herd of sheep in the background. The subjects matters are very well treated with wonderful details, and both artworks are signed in the lower left and lower right corners by the artist, Laure Levy. The elegant paintings are in excellent condition, and the original hand carved frames are embellished with a rich gold leaf finish. Laure Levy (1866-1954) was a French painter and miniaturist born in Paris on 7/24/1866, and died in the Perigord on 3/31/1954. She was a student of Lenglet and Spiridon and was a full member of the "Salon des Artistes Francais" starting in 1889. Listed in the Benezit. See last picture. Measures: 15" W x 12.75" H.
