Oil on Canvas Parisian Street Painting in Carved Gilt Frame Signed J. Sambataro

About the Item

Set in the original carved gilt frame and painted circa 1980, the large oil on canvas painting entitles "Rue des Ternes" depicts a typical Paris scene on Avenue des Ternes, a peaceful middle-class neighborhood with elegant – predominantly Haussmannian – buildings, desirable townhouses, large green spaces and lively squares and food markets. The artwork is signed in the lower right corner by American artist, Joe Sambataro. The painting is in excellent condition with rich and vivid colors; the impressionist scene with lots of movement, horse-drawn carriages and people walking, is reminiscent of the works of Edouard Cortes, Antoine Blanchard or Eugene Galien-Laloue. Wire in the back for easy installation. Impressionist Joe Sambataro was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1947 and attended the Philadelphia College of Arts, and became an honor graduate of the famous Layton School of Art. In addition, he received academic degrees from Marquette University. At 15, Sambataro won his first of many major awards and has himself become lecturer and judge for art leagues, juried contests, exhibitions and colleges. The widespread popularity of Sambataro's original oil paintings is borne out in the fact that Sambataro has sold over 2,500 original works, in addition to over 200 murals. His ability to paint a wide variety of subjects is accounted for by Sambataro's extensive travels on several continents. His noted portraits include those of Lyndon Johnson, John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe, Gary Busey, Barbara Streisand, Paul "Bear" Bryant and John F. Kennedy. Corporate owners include ABC Television, F.W. Woolworth Col., USAF-8th Air Force SAC Division, and the Parker Pen Company. With the township of "Ternes" originating in the Middle Ages, the scene depicted here by Sambataro was added as a district of Paris in 1860. Since then, Avenue des Ternes has become a hidden paradise in the city of Paris. Today it is a commercial pathway filled with small shops to enjoy street shopping. The shops are similar to the fashionable and chic departmental stores around the city. As it is not much known to the tourist crowd, Avenue des Ternes is one of the quaint places to visit in Paris that will let you roam around freely and enjoy the architecture and the shopping. There are also numerous popular tourist attractions, like nearby Arc De Triomphe, that you can visit here. Measures: 35.75" W x 48" H.
