"Nudes with Arched Bridge, " WPA Period Painting by Rodda, 1930s
About the Item
Suffused with the rich, subdued colors of the WPA period, this painting by Maryland artist Larry Rodda depicts a male and female nude couple sitting on a grassy spot overlooking an arched bridge. Using a warm and rosy palette for the couple, Rodda painted this piece with oil on Masonite. The artist was part of the Snallygaster School of painters mentored by Charles Walther. Walther was well-known for attracting the attention and support of Alfred Barr at MoMA, Duncan Phillips and the cone sisters. (Dimensions include frame).
