Marie Philips-Weber (German, 1845-1942) oil on canvas "Reading a Book" depicting a young maiden reading a book, within an ornate gilt and gesso frame. Signed: M. Weber Philips (l/r), circa 1880.
Marie (Maria) Philips-Weber (German, 1845-1942) was a 19th century German genre painter active in Munich between 1873 and 1883. She exhibits in Munich in 1876. Her works are currently part of the collection at The Munich Museum in Nuremberg and at The Vatican. Philips-Weber is a listed listed and recorded artist in the Benezit-Dictionnaire Des Peintres, Sculpteurs, Dessinateurs Et Graveurs by Gründ, Volume 10, page 661-662 (Ninth Edition).
