Italian 19th Century Framed Oil on Canvas Painting Depicting Cows in Pastures

About the Item

An Italian oil on canvas painting from the mid-19th century depicting cows, sheep and goats in pastures, in antique giltwood frame. Created in Italy during the third quarter of the 19th century, this horizontal oil on canvas painting depicts two cows, surrounded by sheep and a black goat, relaxing in a peaceful landscape. Bathed in a golden light, the scene is perfectly composed. The sky, whose fluffy clouds reflect the lovely tones of a sun setting, is given a large portion of the composition and is beautifully contrasted to the darkness of left side and foreground. The human presence is barely visible with the shepherd sitting to the left of the cows. Unsigned, this Italian oil on canvas painting circa 1850-1870, set in an antique giltwood frame carved with scrolling foliage, will make for an excellent decorative addition to any home, perhaps hung above a commode, side table or buffet.
