Irene Höll 'Komet' Signed Abstract Modern Art Mixed-Media Painting, Germany
About the Item
'Komet' (Comet) - a wonderful large & informal abstract modernist mixed media painting signed by German artist Irene Höll (b.1960). Painted on canvas, Höll applies the paint on to the canvas, sometimes with brushes or spatula, sometimes with hands - scratching through new layers of paint to reveal the underlying pigments and textures previously applied. Creating texture, directly on to the surface of the canvas, Höll likes to use, often 'found' materials such as paper, cardboard, ash or sand. Using this to her advantage - here, she appears to have used paper with almost a parchment type quality to it in order to sweep across the middle of the painting and, near to this, a small textured line of sand, which has been applied with a spatula, sits next to a gentle smudge of warm yellow ochre whilst a bright pink line of chalk caresses it's top. Irene Höll creates here an interesting color play and movement of light, most notably, where the bright yellow paint 'splashes' next to the deep dark blacks and cobalt blues.
