In the late 1980's Picasso artwork was really starting to take off. Auction houses like Christie's and Sotheby's set new records almost every several months. The Golden Age of Modern Art Collections had arrived!
Already by the sixties, Picasso was declared by many the most important artist of the 20th century. His various styles and periods were documented and celebrated in books and art museums. His art was universally recognizable.
The result saw an unprecedented amount of lithographs, prints and copies of his works for those who didn't have several million lying around for a Picasso original painting.
More ambitious artists, "re-created" his works, unashamedly, as both a tribute to the Artist and a savvy appeal to the marketplace.
This work "Girl with Mandolin", by Sela, is a mid-90's re-creation of Picasso's early Cubist work. It captures the essence of the original, beautifully, and reminds one why the cubist aesthetic now appeals so strongly to the same world that it initially confounded when it appeared in 1910.
This piece now has some age on it, which actually adds to its beautiful presentation!

The title and date is found on the back of the canvas.
Title on the back of the canvas reads "LA ALEGRIA DEVIVIR" Which Translates, "Joy Of Living"
Thick canvas stretched over wooden frame, large staples, oil paint, signed, titled, and dated.
There Are Some Imperfections. Some Scuffs Along the boarders and see also corners of this painting and a few chips as well, see pics. I must mention, there is are two tiny u shaped flap like tears. Number one, is to the far left middle boarder edge. The u shaped flap like tear has not been completely torn away from the canvas itself, as you can see for yourself, see pic. Number two, the u shaped flap like tear is on the top boarder middle edge, the flap is still attached to the painting and can be placed back, I try to keep vintage pieces like this in it's original condition as we go about our digs for modern design, see pic. Both are smaller then a dime.
