About the Item
In 1938, one of the most controversial artists that Subotica has ever had was born — Spiridon Mitić. Among his fellow citizens, he is remembered as a (then) Serbian-Croatian language teacher in an elementary school in Subotica. A restless artistic spirit, due to circumstances, led him to the famous painter Salvador Dali, and on that occasion a photograph was taken of the unsurpassed Dali wearing a painting of Spiridon around his neck. This moment put Mitić in the world orbit (as reported by the Zagreb Arena), in which the names of famous people are mixed with the names of those whose canvases, from time to time, we can see in the galleries of Paris, London, New York... The Spanish painter has been gone for a long time. , Spiridon's cosmopolitan spirit emerges only from time to time, and we are left with his collection of poems entitled Svetlosna nevesta (published by Matica srpska 1969) to remind us of "Subotic days" of this interesting man.
