English 19th Century Oil on Canvas Farm Painting Depicting Calves and Chickens

About the Item

An English 19th century oil on canvas painting depicting farm animals in a barn in giltwood frame. This English farm painting features two lovely calves that seem to be hesitantly standing on their young legs, walking towards a trough full of hay that is placed in front of them. A hen, surrounded by her chicks who are drinking from a small bowl, seems to be keeping an eye on everything. In the distance, a rooster completes the composition. The depth is given by the simple, rustic architecture of the barn. This simple scene, bathed in a soft light, exudes a serene atmosphere, making this English 19th century painting an excellent choice for any room. Set within a giltwood frame with carved moldings, this painting is signed R. Hannington lower right.
