Emmanuel Joseph Lauret, Boat on the Wild Sea, Oil on Canvas, Framed

About the Item

This is a 19th century scene of a wild sea with a boat by the painter Emmanuel Joseph Lauret (1809-1882). A landscape artist of the 19th century embraced a wide-reaching romantic movement and infused their compositions with passion and drama. The sea is painted with lots of brown and grey shades and given a very wild feeling to its viewers. It can also be seen by the two sailboats in the front that are leaning dangerously low towards the left. They almost seem to capsize. A larger boat can be seen on the horizon and a flock of birds flying over the water surface. The sky is painted in the same way as the sea, the clouds are greyish and give a sense of danger. The painting is framed and signed in the bottom right corner.
