Coloured Ink and Acryl on Printed Paper, Noor Knip, 2021

About the Item

Noor Knip (Delft, 1943) was educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. She has been a member of Kunstgenootschap de Ploegh in Soest since 1994. Her work is privately owned and included in the collections of various art libraries. In the many years that Noor Knip has been active as a visual artist, there is hardly any material that she has left untouched. For example, in the 1990s she produced a lot of ceramics and graphics, but she has now been converted to painting for some time. Her recent paintings on canvas, linen and newsprint are as 'vital, humorous and idiosyncratic' as it can get. Human and animal figures, living or dead, and lots of other big themes from real life will pop-up once you give yourself the time to take a good look at what's going on.

Martin Eisler (1913–1977) and Carlo Hauner (1927–1997) were influential figures in mid-20th-century furniture design. Hauner, born in Brescia, Italy, studied technical drawing and design at the Brera Academy in Milan. In 1948, he moved to Brazil and founded Móveis Artesanal, a furniture production company. Copper and Brass Ceiling Lamp, Scandinavia, 1930's
By Hans-Agne Jakobsson
Located in Uithoorn, NL
Beautifully patinated ceiling lamp with lots of resemblance with the work of Hans Agne Jacobsson but then more beautiful. Great shadowplay and warm vibrant light. Both the copper and the brass are very nicely patinated creating an organge / red light. Interesting geometrical figures and cleverly built: the source of light (the bulb) is hidden inside the lamp so don't expect a sea of light coming out of this one. For cosy corners...

Corner Sofa Blond Wood and Fabric, Italy, 1950's
By Ico Parisi
Located in Uithoorn, NL
Corner sofa in blond wood and fabric,, Italy, 1950's What stands out most in this low corner bench are the recesses in the framework and the 9 straight, tapered, squared stiletto legs that are so typical for that period in Italy. As you can see the backrest is optional and was probably designed later to give it some extra comfort. Back in the days these sofas were mostly used for very practical purposes like a quick coffee or pasta. This sofa would work very well in a corner of course but strangely enough this rectangular sofa also works very well in the middle of a room for example with a round table and two chairs...

"Primare 3, " 2021 White and Gray Abstract Acrylic on Masonite by James Kennedy
By James Kennedy
Located in New York, NY
"Primare 3," 2021 by artist James Kennedy, is masterful abstract acrylic polymer painting on an incised masonite panel floating in a white shadowbox in a white wood frame signed on the verso. James layers acrylic washes on masonite panels to which he adds emulsion, glazes and scraping to build up individual planes of color. The artist incorporates a sophisticated palette of primarily neutral shades of white, gray and beige. Touches of cobalt blue, yellow, brick, charcoal gray and black black energize the surface resulting in a rich and striking bejeweled composition of intersecting planes of color. In James's own words his paintings "address a fascination with essential structures and arrangements whilst exploring the linguistics of music, mathematics, dance and architecture. Pattern recognition and manipulation are common themes, and involve the resolution of space within my own abstract vocabulary, in essence solving spatial equations through paint." The results are meticulously crafted architectural landscapes of tertiary colors exquisitely ordered and balanced while simultaneously possessing rhythmic and lyrical surfaces. James Kennedy, was born in Northern Ireland and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy and Rhodec Academy of Design in London where he respectively received BA degrees in Arts and Interior and Architectural Design. He is the recipient of prestigious awards including the Golden Foundation for the Arts Residency, James Bridie Gold Medal awarded by RSA, Brooklyn Artist Gym for best in show Abstract Landscape and the Kiton Art Rising winner in 2010. Selected exhibitions include Dolby Chadwick, San Francisco, Callan Contemporary, New Orleans, John Hartell Gallery, Cornell University, Mindy Solomon, Miami, MMFA, Palm Springs, Ann Loucks Gallery, Chicago, Brooklyn Artists Gym, NY, Surface Library Gallery, East Hampton, Galerie Werner, Pittsburgh, Amy Zook...
