About the Item

American artist Claude Bentley (1915-1990); large abstract Expressionist oil on canvas from 1960 signed and dated on the front also signed and titled "Eclipse" in pencil on centre stretcher bar. Mr. Bentley was exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Corcoran Gallery, the Denver Art Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He was a first generation abstract Expressionist from Chicago and divided his time between that city, New York and New Mexico. His paintings were exhibited from the 1940s thru the 1960s. Located in Laguna Beach, Calif.
