About the Item
Antique Framed Oil Painting by Francois de Lalande is a splendid pastoral that combines forest, a riverbank, livestock and a quaint water wheel all in late fall colors. The artist draws the viewer into the scene, creating a yearning for a simple rural life, devoid of the hustle and bustle of the city. The structure at left appears to be quite old and perhaps waiting for the little river to rise a bit to get back in operation. Pastel earth tones dominate the palette, executed on a post-impressionist theme yet with remarkable detail appearing in the livestock in the foreground. One can almost smell the fresh air! Survives in its original carved giltwood frame.
