19th Century Framed Hand Colored Engraving by Armand Mathey '1854-1931'
About the Item
19th century framed hand colored engraving by Armand Mathey (1854-1931) is a superb example of 18th century portraiture reproduced in the 19th century via engravings and deftly hand-colored to bring out detail. Affluent couples would have their portraits made as a legacy item, often depicted with a favored pet. Notice the artist's particular skill at extremely fine detail in the closeup photos. Survives in its original finely detailed frame and mat,
circa 1880s.
