It preserves the original label in the back. Framed with a mid XXth century wooden frame.
A label on the verso of Togores Nu (1923) lists the work’s dimensions, stock number (no. 8032), and photo number. It is telling that the label is pasted on top of that from the Galerie Kahnweiler as the two businesses were closely linked. Galerie Simon was run by Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler but named after his partner and financial backer Andre´ Cahen, known as Andre´ Simon. The Galerie Simon opened in September 1920 after Kahnweiler returned to Paris from his Swiss exile during World War I, and remained in business until 1940, when it was closed due to World War II. In contrast to his modest prewar gallery, Kahnweiler’s Galerie Simon, located at 29 bis, rue d’Astorg, was comprised of four large exhibition halls filled with natural light. The gallery was secured with the help of the artist Ame´de´e Ozenfant, with whom Kahnweiler had become acquainted in Switzerland during the war, and Charles-E´douard Jeanneret, the painter and architect who would change his name to Le Corbusier that year, who rented a neighboring space from the same landlord.
