Pair of Late Regency Hunt Engravings in Period Frames

About the Item

These two works commemorate the great English pastime of gentlemen hunt parties and social gatherings surrounding the land and its produce to those who own it. This very nice pair of hand-colored engravings was published in October of 1832. The works were drawn by W. P. Hodges Esq. for his friend E. M. Gleydell Esq. showing his hunt for a Roebuck on his ancestral property & includes a view of his friends home Whatcombe House. The engravings were created by H. Alken & R. G. Reeve with the work being published by Thomas McLean whose address was 26 Haymarket St London. The subject matter of the works is the long-standing hunt for the Roebuck and its final death. The colors are still good and the coloring is tight and well done. The works are in the original period frames with great old surface and patina but have a new French polish to enhance the color and appeal. The pair have new acid free matting and backing that we have placed on them for protection but the plate marks and glass are visible and original with all new hanging devices.
