Pair Framed Silk Stevengraphs The Present Time & The Good Old Days
About the Item
A fine pair framed silk Stevengraphs, one titled The Present Time and the other The Good Old Days, by Thomas Stevens and dating from 1875. The rectangular silk sewn panels portray two forms on transport, a horse drawn stagecoach (The Good Old Days) and the very desirable and sought after steam train, (The Present Time). Both are finely detailed in colored silk thread and are mounted in colored mounts with gilded edging and with the titles printed below the scenes. The steam train also records the speeds being achieved at the time as ’60 MILES AN HOUR’. The silks are mounted in simple box edge gilded frames and both have clear perspex backs with printed details of the maker Thomas Stevens.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
In good overall condition with some customary age staining to the mounts. Both retaining good color.
