Rare 50th Anniversary Dr. Seuss Grinch at Mount Crumpit Serigraph Custom Framed
About the Item
Very collectible and rare, sold out limited edition 50th Anniversary of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Dr. Seuss “Grinch at Mount Crumpit” serigraph on coventry rag paper.
This is a large work of art measuring approximately 60.5” x 31” inches framed. Image paper size is 55” x 26”. Numbered in pencil on the bottom portion right hand side, 17/295, delineating that this is number 17 of only 295 of these sold out editions in the world. Embossed 50th Anniversary circular chop mark seal for proof of authenticity is located on the left hand side bottom portion. This is an estate art piece from a private collector. Originally purchased at an authorized Dr. Seuss gallery in Maui, Hawaii.
The “Grinch at Mount Crumpit” is elegantly and transitionally custom floated framed in a black mat finish frame over black silk matting with plexiglass front and a wine red colored exterior accent fillet. The serigraph is attached to an acid free foam core lift, hidden behind the work of art to insure it stays centered in the frame.
Adapted posthumously from the illustration for the 1957 book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
Mount Crumpit is a mountain high above and to the north of Whoville. The Grinch and his dog Max both reside there.
Dr. Seuss felt people largely misconstrued The Grinch for the ultimate villain saying, “Can't they understand that the Grinch in my story is the Hero of Christmas? Sure, he starts out as a villain, but it’s not how you start out that counts. It’s what you are at the finish.” This sentiment is what makes Dr. Seuss’s unorthodox creature so memorable—in the end he became his best self, he became the Hero of Christmas, and The Grinch himself carved the “roast beast.”
Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904 and passed away on September 24, 1991 at the age of 87 years old. He was a very famous American author, political cartoonist, poet, animator, book publisher, and artist, best known for authoring children's books under the pen name Dr. Seuss. His work includes several of the most popular children's books of all time, selling over 600 million copies and being translated into more than 20 languages by the time of his death.
Geisel adopted his "Dr. Seuss" pen name during his university studies at Dartmouth College and the University of Oxford. He left Oxford in 1927 to begin his career as an illustrator and cartoonist for Vanity Fair, Life, and various other publications. He also worked as an illustrator for advertising campaigns, most notably for Flit and Standard Oil, and as a political cartoonist for the New York newspaper PM. He published his first children's book And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street in 1937. During World War II, he worked in an animation department of the United States Army where he produced several short films, including Design for Death, which later won the 1947 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Original Space Artist Andreas Nottebohm Acrylic on Aluminum Painting KNM 1387
Located in Tustin, CA
Visionary, abstract original acrylic on aluminum painting by famous NASA Space Artist, Andreas Nottebohn, titled "KNM 1387" depicts a colorful, otherworldly scene on a shimmering sheet of scored metal. This incredible celestial painting frees the viewer from a one dimensional perspective by suggesting a vast and mysterious distance.
Information on the back of the painting states, “KNM 1387 Spec 1 of 48 similar original paintings 1996 30 x 24 Acrylic on Aluminum”. Hand signed by the artist in the lower left corner.
Very nicely custom framed in a transitional style black frame with wide silver inner lining. Framed, the painting measures approximately 35" high x 29" wide x 2" deep. Unframed painting measures approximately 30" high x 24" wide.
One of the key innovators of metal painting, Nottebohm creates what might be called sculptures on a flat plane. By removing microscopic layers from the metal surface, he transforms the material into patterns of shimmering light. The unusual luminous quality of Nottebohm's work comes from the aluminum surfaces he scores, using a variety of manual and machine tools. Aluminum can create light and movement that you cannot create with anything else. It is similar to the sun reflecting on water, and you see one painting from one side and another painting from another side.
East German born (1944) Andreas Nottebohm moved to Munich as a teenager and immigrated to the San Francisco Bay area of the United States in 1979, after touring the U.S. for a one man exhibition. While in Germany in the 1970s, he was one of the co-founders of the Society for Art and Science in Munich.
Around the time he relocated to the United States, he was invited to participate in the NASA Art...
