About the Item
Inlaid walnut psyche of Charles X. Produced in good condition with small wear caused by the years and use. The Charles X Style (1824 - 1830) in the decorative arts and furnishings developed in the first half of the nineteenth century, in the midst of the French Restoration (1824 - 1830) with the ascension to the throne of King Charles X, in 1825, from which it takes its name. The Napoleonic cycle had just ended, in France there was a strong desire to restore the state of things to how they were before the Revolution (1789 - 1799), including the style in fashions and furnishings. In the first twenty years of the nineteenth century, several new styles alternated, or rather old styles renewed - sometimes even in very bad taste -, among these the Empire Style, characteristic for its highly recognizable lines and an indisputable grandeur and elegance. The Charles X style ideally represents the continuation of the Empire Style, whose aesthetic solutions are the result, but differ from it for the more graceful and harmonious lines.
