Early 19th Century Regency Rosewood Flip Top Table
About the Item
A very fine early 19th century Regency rosewood flip top table. The moulded inlaid and cross banded top of rectangular form supported on turned and reeded column above quatrefoil base with tapering cross banded outswept leg with foliate cast sabot caps terminating on brass casters.
The Brass Latch is Stamped 'Bullock Patent'.
The stamp on the brass release refers to William Bullock of Soho, London, who established a foundry and owned a number of patents for various mechanisms listed as working between 1801 and 1813. (See information from Lucy Wood and also Christopher Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700 - 1840, 1996, p.20. and plate 162, illustrates a mahogany breakfast table the brass catch stamped 'BULLOCK'.
