Steel and Glass "Scribble" Side Table by Rebecca Welz
About the Item
New York artist Rebecca Welz’s sculptural “Scribble Table” side table is made of steel rods that are bent, twisted, and welded into an artful tangle or “scribble.” Welz has described her welded steel sculptures as “large, kinetic drawings in space,” and the two works in her “Scribble Table” series are her first furniture pieces to be made in this style. The unfinished steel base seems to be a large, organic, graphite line drawing transformed into 3-D, with a circular glass tabletop resting on top. The dynamic movement of the twisting steel is reflected in the intricate shadows cast on the floor or walls, adding another dimension to the work.
Each piece is unique and signed by the artist. New tables can also be commissioned in custom sizes.
Welz was born in California and received her BFA from the Boston Museum School of Fine Art. She currently lives in New York and works as Adjunct Professor at the Pratt Institute. Her artistic practice includes fine art sculpture in various materials, collage on paper, jewelry design, and furniture design, and her work is included in private and public collections around the world.
