Italian Rationalism Blonde Walnut Side Table With Drawer

About the Item

We kindly invite you to read the entire description, as we strive to provide detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our pieces. This elegant blonde walnut side table boasts a refined design and a sturdy structure. Unlike traditional models, it does not have legs but instead features two lateral panels that connect directly to the tabletop, ensuring exceptional stability. Beneath the top, a spacious and practical drawer is fitted with a rare glass handle. The entire table is veneered in blonde walnut. European blonde walnut (Juglans regia) is a highly prized wood, considered one of the finest in terms of quality. It is distinguished by its light color with warm yellowish hues and pronounced grain patterns, characteristics that make it especially valued in luxury furniture design. This hardwood is renowned for its striking grain and flame patterns, which have been appreciated for centuries. Due to its unique aesthetic appeal and limited availability—only a small portion of each tree can be used—blonde walnut furniture is both sought after and expensive. This side table was crafted between 1925 and 1930 in Cantù, a town in the province of Como (Lombardy, Italy), renowned for its artisan furniture production. For centuries, Cantù has been synonymous with excellence in woodworking, creating high-end furnishings for an elite clientele. The table dates back to the Fascist era (1922–1943), a period when Italy saw the rise of various architectural and design styles, including Rationalism. This movement was characterized by clean lines, geometric shapes, and a strong emphasis on functionality. Italian Rationalism of the 1920s and 1930s found parallels with several European movements, particularly the German Bauhaus, sharing its focus on functionality and simplicity. However, Italian Rationalism maintained a distinctive identity, incorporating elements of classical tradition. Its designs were marked by essential, functional forms, devoid of superfluous ornamentation, with lightweight, geometric structures and a minimalist aesthetic. Notable furniture designers of this era include Giuseppe Terragni, Franco Albini, Luigi Figini, and Gino Pollini. With its compact dimensions, this side table embodies the perfect balance between functionality and style, a hallmark of Rationalist design. Its impeccable craftsmanship and precise joinery highlight the exceptional skill of Italian cabinetmakers. The clean lines and well-proportioned structure reflect the Rationalist aesthetic, while the warm blonde walnut finish adds a touch of elegance and warmth to any setting. More than just a functional piece, this table serves as a historical testament to a period of great cultural and artistic innovation in Italy. Its versatility makes it suitable for various living spaces: it can serve as a statement piece in a living room or a practical accent in a study or bedroom. Owning this side table means adding a unique piece to your collection—one that tells the story of Italian design while enhancing any space with its understated yet sophisticated presence. Louis Philippe Style Feather Walnut Coffee Table With Tripod North Italy
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Elegant round coffee table from northern Italy with "orange slice" veneered with walnut-feather; the central stem of the tripod is in hexagonal solid wood; the three final supports, always in solid wood, are shaped and well whittled with simple and rigorous lines; at the center of the table, there is a delicate and refined inlay reproducing a rose, made by hand with soft precious woods, the two peripheral circles of the top are always inlaid. The most interesting and compelling feature of this table is the workmanship with which it was made: the " wood veneer"( Attention. The exact term is Italian "lastronatura" untranslatable in English, in fact, the "lastronatura" is very different and older than “wood veneer”. Read explanation later). The”lastronatura” is an artisan technique that spread already during the sixteenth century and remained unchanged until the mid-nineteenth century before the Industrial Revolution; it consisted of hand-cutting the trunks of noble wood (walnut, mahogany, briar, walnut-feather, etc.) with ancient saws in so many layers with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 6 millimeters, which were then applied to furniture for decorative purposes; the finishing of this procedure was very complex: the wood layer was treated with natural earth dissolved in water for the desired shade, it was aged with stone, fixed with shellac applied with a brush and finally polishing was performed in 12 steps...

Wrought Iron Italian Wall Console Table with Wooden Top
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as it provides detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. This elegant and refined Italian wrought iron wall console table features an exceptional curvilinear and slender design, aesthetically and symmetrically perfect. The upper top is made of high-quality wood painted black, with few decorative elements that are simple and rationally distributed. This model has the convenient feature of being fixed to the wall by means of two small perforated plates welded to the back edge of the console table (see photo), ensuring the piece of furniture is permanently solid and stable. The console table was created between 1930 and 1935 in an ironworking workshop in the Santo Spirito district of Florence, Tuscany, Italy. Since ancient times, this part of the city has been the vibrant center of Florence's craftsmanship. Florence has a long history of metalworking, dating back to the Renaissance, when it was an important center for the production of wrought iron. Florentine craftsmen were renowned for their intricate designs and high-quality ironwork, often used for furniture, gates, and architectural elements. Italian wrought iron consoles have a rich history and are admired for their craftsmanship, elegance, and durability. The evolution of these pieces reflects broader trends in art, architecture, and interior design in Italy, particularly in Tuscany. The use of wrought iron dates back to antiquity, but during the late medieval period, Italian blacksmiths began to perfect their skills, creating functional and decorative artifacts, including furniture. The Renaissance (14th-17th centuries) was a significant period for art and craftsmanship in Italy. Wealthy patrons, inspired by classical antiquity, commissioned intricate wrought iron work for their homes and public buildings. Tuscany during the Renaissance was the world center for art, culture, science, and crafts. During the Baroque period (17th-18th centuries), wrought iron consoles became more extravagant, featuring bold and dramatic designs with heavy ornamentation. Neoclassicism (late 18th-early 19th century) brought a return to simplicity and classical inspiration; wrought iron furniture had decorative elements inspired by ancient Greece and Rome. From the 19th to the early 20th century, ironwork saw a mix of styles, including the revival of earlier periods and the introduction of new trends such as Art Nouveau, with organic, flowing lines and patterns inspired by nature. In the 20th century, wrought iron console tables continued to evolve, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design principles. Mid-century modern styles (1920-1950) favored a more minimalist design, with simple, clean lines and functional forms. Wrought iron furniture could incorporate glass and wood. Italian wrought iron console tables were traditionally made by skilled blacksmiths using techniques passed down through generations. This involved heating the iron in forges and shaping it with a hammer and anvil. Italian wrought iron console tables are often considered functional works of art, serving practical purposes while acting as focal points in a room. This particular type of table is versatile and suits a variety of settings, from classic to contemporary. Antique wrought iron console tables...
