French Louis XVI Bouillotte Table, 1800
About the Item
This exquisite Louis XVI Bouillotte Table, dating back to 1800, showcases the artistry of wood marquetry with inlaid bands. Adorned with a sophisticated dark grey marble top, elegantly framed by a delicate pierced brass gallery, this table is a true masterpiece. It has two convenient small drawers and two leather inset panels that effortlessly pull out. The tapering legs, adorned with wood marquetry, rest on brass sabots.
What Is a Bouillotte Table?
A Bouillotte table, historically used for card games, features a distinctive metal gallery surrounding its top, often graced with luxurious marble. It typically includes at least one drawer and sometimes a pull-out tray. Originating in the 18th century, the Bouillotte card game, centered on creating three of a kind, enjoyed great popularity during the French Revolution. It experienced resurgence in the 1830s and even found a following in the United States.
