French 19th Century Louis XV St. Kingwood, Exotic Wood and Ormolu Side Table
About the Item
A stunning French 19th century Louis XV st. Kingwood, exotic wood, and ormolu side table signed by Durand. The three-drawer table is raised by elegant cabriole legs with exceptional fitted foliate ormolu sabots and chutes leading up each leg to striking richly chased scrolled corner mounts with lovely finely detailed blooming flowers in a superb satin and burnished finish. At the center are the three drawers sans traverse (without crossbar) showcasing the cabinet maker's high skill set and decorated with charming wonderfully executed inlaid scrolled foliate designs leading across each drawer with the back decorated in the same manner. The bottom drawer displays a lovely pierced foliate ormolu reserve while the top two display lovely foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheons with the top drawer opening to reveal a wonderful storage compartment with its original fitted gold-tooled leather writing surface. Each side displays an elegant handle set on a butterfly veneered background while the top displays additional stunning inlaid foliate designs also set on a butterfly veneered background and framed within an elegant charming scallop-shaped border.
Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand, Paris (1839-1920) Maison Durand has established in 1870 Paris, producing top-quality 18th-century style furniture. Durand participated at the Exposition Universelle in 1889, where he received a silver medal, notably following in the footsteps of Masters such as Beurdeley and Dasson.
