American Aesthetic Movement Gothic ebonised table Herter Brothers style
About the Item
Remarkable American Aesthetic Movement or Modern Gothic ebonised & Gilt table with originla black plate inset glass top dating from The Gilded Age circa 1875. The table bears no makers stamp but the quality and sophisitication of the design of this table would point to one of the leading, probably New York, cabinet makers of the day for example Kimbel & Cabus, Herter Brothers etc. The table has its original thick black plate glass inset top and overall is in good conditition. There is some evidence of a small amount of historic wood worm but this has long been inactive and the table has been additionally treated as a precaution. There are no cracks or chips to the glass top just some very light scratching consistent with a table of this age.
