Pair, Drexel Profile Mid-Century Modern Step End Tables by John Van Koert

About the Item

This pair of Mid-Century Modern step end tables by John Van Koert for Drexel feature exceptional lines and contrasting wood grain. They are from the "Profile" line for the furniture maker. I believe they are walnut and ash. In original unrestored condition. A quintessential example of American Modernism, these were made in North Carolina. Van Koert was a leader in bringing Danish and Scandinavian modernism to the United States. His designs for Drexel featured clean, sculptural shapes, as exemplified in these tables. Marked on base: K97-5 STEP TABLE WALNUT BY DREXEL 1058 Each measures 24" high x 19.5" wide x 30" deep. The lower table is 17" high and the upper level is 17" deep. Good original unrestored condition. Wear commensurate with age. Scuffs, dings and losses primarily to corners and edges. Righthand table appears to have had the finish partially removed -- revealing the differing original tones of the two different woods -- but never fully restored and refinished. Structurally sound and solid.
