A 19th c. Clipper Ship's Staved Tack Bin
About the Item
A 19th century oak bin for the storage of hardtack, a type of dense and long-lasting biscuit, on long clipper ship voyages. The bin is of staved construction, with willow and iron banding, and has a lid with a shaped handle. It is wider at the base than the top, to improve stability, and has two substantial loop iron carrying grips at the top. The bin stands on three cast lion feet. Superior quality, good condition and fine patina. Now useful as a feature piece end table or drinks table.
