Titchmarsh and Goodwin Table, circa 1890

About the Item

Late 19th century oak table by the very well-known Titchmarsh and Goodwin Company in Ipswich. The top is banded and has two draw leaves, which measure 89.38 inches when open. The apron is wonderfully hand carved decorated, and the table is supported on hand turned legs, with hand carved decoration, and are joined by simple and hearty stretchers. The table is in beautiful condition. The apron measures 23.75 inches in height.

We are delighted to offer for sale this very large and substantial solid mahogany extending dining table with spiral legs topped with Lions heads This table is solid! Really really solid, the legs are each one piece of hardened mahogany, carved in a spiral formation with a lions head to the top. The table top is rich and warm, its bevelled to the edges and scalloped in the style of the arts and crafts era Each leg has a castor and you find a manual wind handle to extend it, the table is absolutely massive fully extended and can seat 14 people with two at either end, naturally if you are opting for a traditional setting then 12 We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, there are age and use related patina marks here and there, some color variations in the extension leaves and so on, nothing you wouldn’t expect from a 140+ year old dining table...
