French 19th Century Oak Farmhouse Table

About the Item

Stunning French dining table from the 19th century in solid oak. The long, narrow planks of the top surface show wonderful grain patterns and patina. A single drawer is hidden in the apron, on a short side, opened by a bronze knob with pierced backplate. Four massive, turned baluster legs are connected with sturdy stretchers adding personality to this classic style. This table has been cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready to welcome your guests. Be sure to view the detailed images to see the current condition.

Substantial 19th century country French provincial farmhouse dining table hand-crafted from solid oak. The table features a monumental 2 inch thick top with breadboard ends. The top is supported by a trestle base having thick, chunky turned legs conjoined by H-shaped stretchers and ending with bun feet. Constructed with mostly wood peg joinery each end has a 10" inch overhang for diners and ample leg room measuring 23.5 inches from the floor to the apron. The rare large size is made in a monastery or refectory style. Very heavy and solid with excellent joinery and craftsmanship. The table top showcases the distinctive woodgrains and has a desirable aged patina on the oak with age cracks and gaps to commensurate its age and use.
